Google Voice is the official GV application for Android and the Evo. If you aren’t familiar with the Google Voice service, you would do well to learn more about it. Basically, Google Voice is a service that gives you a brand new number with which you can connect multiple phone lines and configure specific forwarding options. You can route both incoming and outgoing calls through the Google Voice number. One fantastic feature of Google Voice is Voicemail transcripts – yes, Google Voice will transcribe your voicemail and make them searchable as text – almost like email.
Google Voice also handles text messages through the new number, so you can easily give out the new number to friends, family, and co-workers and handle all sorts of different communications through it. If you get a new phone line at work, you can have your existing Google Voice number routed to it, so you don’t have to give out the new line’s number to anyone. It just works. This is one of those HTC Evo apps that set it apart from other platforms. Oh, and it’s free.
