PlinkArt for the HTC Evo and Android is an app that lets you discover and share art. With PlinkArt you can just snap a photo of a painting with your Evo and it’ll automatically identify the painting and display details about the artist, period, and theme. You can rate and comment on pieces as well as share details with your friends via this app. You can search for specific pieces by title or artist name as well. Browsing options include sorting by timeline and asking for a random new painting. It’ll also help you discover art galleries close to your current location.
The interface is clean, well-designed, and stays out of the way of enjoying the images and information. Each detail page also pulls in data from Wikipedia automatically. Tapping on an artist name will pull up more works by the same artists and tapping on a gallery will pull up a list of the entire collection for that specific gallery. The app does require network access to do most things, which can be a problem since most people would use this while traveling internationally, and a working cellular connection is less likely in that scenario. However, that really isn’t the app’s fault, and keeping a database of paintings offline is out of the question. Overall, this is a fantastic app for art lovers and even for people who have a more casual approach to art.
